Their kitchen was excellent. This is their first time as a host church. Our night is Tue 18 March. Warwick will supply coffee and tea. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich bagged lunches will be prepared by our volunteers.Peninsula Peace ProjectAn observance of Martin Luther King Day was held at the Newport News Victory Arch. Jerry Tenney was Master of Ceremonies. ChristopherHicks, Nick Boke, and Christine Woods read portions of MLK's "Beyond Vietnam" speech that MLK delivered at Riverside Church in NYC one year before his assasination. Bob Matters played guitar sang four great peaceful songs. Coverage included an article on the front page of the local section and a well-produced piece on WAVY TV10. The Peace Project is considering getting involved in helping reestablish a homeless shelter in Newport News, but this may be more appropriate to the SoCo. The Peninsula Peace Project next meeting is 13 February.Peacemaking Study ActionThe next Social Concerns Sunday is a Peacemaking discussion. The topic will be the same as the one held at the Retreat since folks may be interested that weren't at the retreat and the SoCo members were busy cooking dinner. There were some upcoming deadlines for turning in information to the UUSC, but Mason checked online and they don't seem to be related to what we've been doing.Social Concerns SundaysWe had about 10 folks attend Bush's Brain. Continuing at Noon seems to be preferred. The next on will be on Peacemaking as mentioned in the previous paragraph. The web page needed updating.UUSC Fellowship Covenant GroupBuffy provided materials on UUSC Fellowship Covenant Groups to Pam that seems like it would make a good Adult RE program for Sunday mornings.LINK Grocery ListDavid Walsh created a sample grocery list. The SoCo had a number of comments and suggestions for Pam to take back to David. The plan is to use this as a fund raising effort. The LINK concert is also still being considered.Justice SundayMarch 30th is Justice Sunday. Mason will invite Buffy to the next SoCo to discuss and plan the program. Mason is going to be doing further research in the mean time including coordinating with Dan regarding the choir.TJDNo discussion without Sandra.Inherit the WindThis play will be at the Peninsula Community Theater for most of February.Red CrossShould the SoCo help raise money for the Red Cross as part of their Hero's Campaign? To be a "Hero" requires raising $1000. Concerns about whether the money was to be used nationally or locally and the ongoing leadership difficulties of the Red Cross were raised. Mason and David Walsh will research further.Smithfield Salon2 Feb 2008 is the next Salon in Smithfield. The topic will be the upcoming election. 6pm is pot luck and 7pm is discussion.Lost BoysPam will check with Julie Hill and other involved folks regarding getting current information about the status of the Lost Boys.
