Presentation from Chair

The meeting was chaired briefly by Mason, who gave an overview of the RE discussions that had taken place before church this summer. Pam Tenney then took over, working from the agenda.

Marriage Amendment

Marriage Amendment: Bryan requested help staffing an Equality Virginia table at Hampton Bay Days; there was discussion of the October 15th worship service on the Marriage Amendment, which will be further discussed on Sept. 11. Bryan will contact Ann Hageman, Jacqui will contact the Commonwealth Coalition, and Jerry Tenney will talk with Joanne Dingus about the kids working up a skit for the service. There may be a marriage amendment table at Out in the Park in Chesapeake on Sunday, Sept. 24 Judy will look into this. Discussion of a We support marriage rights for all banner at the church was left to the Welcoming Congregation to pursue.

Social Concerns Table

There was a general discussion of the social concerns table and ways to get information out to people.

Class of Cultures Book Discussion

Nick will disseminate information about the forthcoming Clash of Cultures book discussion.

PORT

Planning for PORT will take place on Sept. 17 after the worship service.

Website/Flier

Re the website: Donna Sprock will get more clarity from David Walsh about what he\222s wanting. Donna will also begin collecting information for the Social Concerns flyer previously discussed.

ByLaws?

Social Concerns is not in the by-laws. Pam will go to the Policy Board to get it made a standing committee.

Green Sanctuary

Green Sanctuary-discussion postponed.

Journey of Hope

This is an organization to promote a moratorium on the death penalty. On Oct. 22-24 activitists will come to the area. UUFP Social Concerns will host a potluck dinner on Monday, October 23rd.

David Rovics

David Rovics discussion postponed.

Council on Committees

Council on Committees discussion postponed.

UUSJ

UUSJ discussion postponed

LINK Dinner

People to phone to get help for the LINK dinner were distributed.

Gary Anderson

Gary has a follow-up to his Darrow show, including WJ Bryan. This idea was postponed.

Actions of Immediate Witness

Sandra discussed the possibility of raising issues from the UUA's Actions of Immediate Witness (AIW).

Social Concerns 9:30am Discussions
